Can I ask, why not go for a usb to IDE connector ? they do external boxes for 5.25 IDE drives - they have power supply with them - would that not solve it easily ?

I`m sure you could get others from somewhere else that will do the same thing, but I`m happy now anyway.

Glad to see that you are finally sorted!

It seems to have been quite an expensive exercise, though I'm sure it will pay for itself in the long run (and at least you found out about the SATA problem with your Dell).
