It was just a matter of time before this happened.

There will be a lot of arguments over this program. I'm all for it though; Backup Loader + Homebrew Region Changer = Happy Me :D.
Opinions?

Well, Nintendo was warned about it by Bushing but couldn't be bother to deal with him.......

This is what I've been waiting for  :D. My wife wouldn't let me mod the kids Wii but with this soon I won't have to buy so many wii games that they end up playing for only a month ;D

It is also a matter of time when Nintendo releases a firmware update that'll put an end to this channel.  It's an arms race though.  They'll do something, and Ninty will be the reactive force.

From the video it's running from the Homebrew Chanel, so I assume that if you have that already installed they won't be able to do much about it.

To use this, you have to load Waninkinkos custom IOS. So Ninty may not have much to do about it.

quoted from tehskeen.com
QuoteIt's time for another exclusive video from TehSkeen. This time our feature presentation is a demonstration of the work in progress Nintendo Wii Backup Loader coded by the infamous and often controversial hacking guru Waninkoko. Yeah, read the first sentence again if you're at a loss for words.

The ISO Loader works like this. You create a legal backup of a game you own, convert the ISO file with a special program then burn it. After this, you copy over the ISO Loader to the Homebrew Channel and run it. It will boot the legal backup. Pretty simple. Oh, and no modchip is required. However, it does require you to have Waninkoko's Custom IOS installed.

This is a unprecedented moment in Nintendo Wii hacking history as is probably going to cause a massive movement in the scene. Too bad Nintendo didn't take Bushing's advice on blocking the method of doing this. Maybe they will now? Of course, this sort of thing isn't condoned by the "general" homebrew scene and when it's released will ultimately lead to some turmoil.

TehSkeen doesn't support piracy. We don't index releases, we don't spread torrents, we don't run contests to dump VC/Wiiware games. Heck, we don't host any tools to inject WAD files with. Waninkoko's motivation for creating the ISO Loader is unknown, but it is illegal and morally wrong to use it for booting illegal copies of games you don't own.

With that all said and done, what do you all think of this milestone in the Nintendo Wii scene? Do you support the project? Do you think it'll force Nintendo to take some sort of action against the "scene"? Oh, please keep out all of the "it's fake" BS in your replies. It's real. Period.

I think once this is released we can kiss all homebrew goodbye within a few months, which is why I'd rather see it not be released. Chips aren't that expensive and paying someone to install it for you if you need to isn't that expensive either.

I agree.  To think R4 is already under assault by Nintendo... whatever it is TehSkeen's original intentions are, they will be lost in all of this.  Nintendo will use the legal arm and homebrew will be zapped to the ice age.  :(

Word out there is that he has done it to scare a possible mod-chip company which has refused to pay him for his work. If they pay up, he probably won't release it........

The Beta version was leaked today (http://wii.qj.net/Wii-backup-loader-finds-its-way-onto-the-net/pg/49/aid/124168) and Waninkoko has officially abandoned the project because of the leak (http://wii.waninkoko.info/).
Bad news for some, good news for others but I doubt this will be the last we see of a backup ISO loader on the Wii.

Has anyone tried the beta? what games have u tried?

Ghostly_One

I'm too scared to try the beta; for starters, I don't have the custom IOS installed and secondly I don't want to risk bricking my Wii. Hopefully another coder will pick up the project from where Waninkoko left off and release a complete version.

uzumakishade

dont know if anyone has been keeping up with this, but i have the gamma loader installed and it works great, most games ive tried work

heres a list of games ive tried
Animal Crossing
Mario Kart wii
Wii Music
House of Dead 2 + 3 Return
Ghost Squad
Pokemon Battle Revolution
Mario Super Sluggers
Excite Truck (Pal)

there is a force NTSC option which works great, theres also a remove copyright flags option which allows you to backup protected saves like mario kart wii and SSBB

liquidnitrogen

so right. anyone tested running a japanese game on a us wii through this loader? :/

basically wanted to know if tatsunoko vs capcom would work through this or not.

or would it require what the post creator said...

homebrew region changer and then loading the game?
