Well, my neighbors 11yr old bro in law has a RROD xbox 360, and wants to get rid of it. It is an old one (one of the first few years) that he bought from craigslist. It worked for quite awhile but about 6 months ago developed the RROD. Can this be fixed? I saw that Team xecuter had a kit for it.

Also if this is repairable, what is it worth?

also anything else i should look on it before buying it?

thanks in advance

how much do you like your neighbours ...if not much then get it for NOT MUCH! lol if you like them then pay them what you think its worth or find something to trade off for it ;)

It is a new neighbor whose bro n law is 12 and has a new xobx 360 with a rrod one in the closet. I do not want to pay too much for it, cause i may end up not getting it to work. The kid does not next door. and my neighbor is a cool guy and could care less about the price of the xbox or other.

but is it worth getting and trying to repair it or not. that is the question along with how much i should pay for it.

edit: i do have a spare edge ds cart, i should see if he plays a ds or not.... i would buy him a 4 gig microsd card and slam in it (12 dollars from newegg)... but who knows on this. still want to find out if it is worth to repair or not

anyone have any luck with this.

If you are certain he hasn't tampered with the box and tried to fix it himself then I would definitely get it. Send it back to Microsoft and get free repair  8)

I will check it out, but isnt this only good for 3yrs on warranty?

DeVS

Yes 3yrs. Tell him you want it for parts and offer him $20 for it.

I want to read up on modding, flashing, or whatever. so to those who have done so, what/where is the best info to read up on this subject?

Check out

Well, i should get my hands on the xbox and the kid wants to exchange the rrod 360 for my spare edge ds cart w/2gig microSD. After i check it out and make sure it is the rrod and not something else. i will trade.

Also, it hasn't been tampered with at all.

If it is out of warranty, has anyone got the xclamp procedure to work?

juancaretta

Here in Argentina we buy our Xboxes already modded, so we only get about 3 months of warranty, I've read that a lot of people who get the RROD fixed it with the xclamp fix, and to keep it cool they do some cooling mods, in my console I put the Whisper Max fans, running at 12v, and added another fan on top of the 3rd heatsink, the one that comes out of the main GPU heatsink and is connected with a heatpipe, so far it works perfectly. I also bought a fan speed regulator, because at 12v it's very noisy. So, yes, the x clamp fix works, but you have to do some other things to keep it working fine, because it already RROD'ed, any more damage on the components due to overheating may break it permanently.
