Within limits that is.

What exactly are the symptoms when you blow one of these?

Does the green light still come on? I mean...in the first post you mentioned that nothing came on except the orange one for a sec when charging, but are there any other known variants of that problem?

Quote from: "bitblt". . . If we try to power up the DS with only the battery nothing happens (no light).  If we plug in the AC adapter the DS will blink orange for a second then nothing.  If we press the power button while the light is still orange the light will sometimes change to green for a second (speaker may chirp also) then nothing.

If your battery is low it would change to red for a second (speaker may chirp also) then nothing.

Ok so I was right in assuming that if the power light comes on and turns off as if the device was alright, it can't be a fuse, I guess?

By the way, what kind of fuses are these?

Can we buy new ones if it happens?

bitblt

I suppose it's some standard 5.2 volt SMD fuse? I'm not sure how to find a new one. I think just bridging the fuse is adequate.  I even shorted my DS again after bridging the fuse and the DS didn't get damaged.

I made a tutorial gathering info from here.

Tell me if it's correct (especially the soldering process).

Your tutorial looks pretty good but I spotted one mistake. You describe soldering a piece of wire across two gold contact pads.  That is incorrect.  With a fully populated DS board you don't see gold contacts.  What you see is a very small green box with (silver color) solder/tin on each end.  Most of the time F2 is the fuse that is blown.  I would recommend testing each fuse with a multimeter before soldering.  It's a very small area to work in and the less soldering the better.

Here is a closeup of fuse F2 on the DS Lite . . .

Sure.

Sweet!
This same thing happened to my old blue DS when THAS's pins went crooked, I gave it to a friend that said he'd try to send it into Nintendo and they did end up fixing it for free. If i'd of known this I could have done it...
If this happens again I;ll know where to go to fix it :D
Thanks much

I have a possible brick problem as well.

I opened my ds and put the battery the wrong way.  I didn't power it on or anything but I'm pretty sure I shorted it. It then showed the same symptoms as the one bitblt described.

Checked and found f2 to be busted, soldered it.

The unit charges now but when i power it up, the green led and the touchscreen powers up then shuts down again.

I'm out of ideas... :(
