Best way (or Program) to listen to MP3 and videos on NDS?

Just curious if the Movie Player software from Supercard is the best... or Moonshell... or something else I do not even know about is the best way to listen to music and watch movies on the NDS Lite?

Blight

Moonshell is WAY better.
the GBA movie player software is using the gba crystal engine.
moonshell however uses all of the power the nds can provide and so it supports mp3 files.

moonshell can play mp3 files without conversion and with smaller file sizes.
it also plays movies infinitly better than the crystal engine.
and if that wasn't enough, the crystal engine supplied with the supercard is 1.30 which is even worse than 1.50

To recap: Moonshell is much better.

Gotcha. Now can you explain how to work the program and get stuff onto my Supercard MiniSD? English Readme file is WAY TOO confusing.

Haoie

Download Moonshell, extract it, etc etc.

It'll be a *.NDS file, I'd think.

Then just run it as you would a ROM, simple as that.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Tried it every possible way I could think of. Nothing seems to bee working for me with this program.

You gotta use the setup program that comes with it. Have it save directly to your SD card.

I didn't download latest version yet. It has got different setup than older ones so I can't tell you exactly how to do this. If it didn't change much, you should run on your computer aplication called "Setup.exe" or something like that. Then you will have to choose right options and click "Setup" button (or something similar) and it will create some files for you (there should be _BOOT_MP_SC.nds). This file will work on DS.

Sorry if this isn't helpful but I don't have time to download and check out new MoonShell now. Maybe I will post something else later.

I just found some time and here are full instructions:
Quote from: "GIDZzz (little modified to match v1.21)"Download and unzip MoonShell, then run "Setup.exe". Now you can see window with the target drive selection. It is better if you choose your memory card but you can also chose other drive but you will need to copy files to memory card after setup is finished. You can choose files that will be copied in configuration files section. "global.ini" is file with settings, "desktop.bmp" is a desktop picture, "startup.mp3" is a sound that will be played on startup, "*.msp" files are plugin files. If this is your first time, turn on all options. You can modify those files later to change settings, etc. You can enable and select clock plugin in its section. Language settings section is to enable font for your region. In ROM image section you need only one option - file for SC. If you choose all options, you will get four files and two of them are unnecessary. Backup option will create backup files if there will be already other files with the same names. I never use it.
If you have chosen memory card as your target drive at beginning of the setup, you are ready to run MoonShell. If it was other drive, copy created files ("_BOOT_MP_SC.nds" and whole "shell" folder) to your memory card and then you are ready to go.

Well... got it to work. MP3's rocks on it... both through speakers and headphones. Pictures look good and text files too. Thanks all for the help.

I do have one other question. It seems to shut off the screens after a few seconds (I am sure to save battery life), but is there a way to disable that so the screens stay on?

GIDZzz

Open "glaba.ini" and find this section:

[BacklightTimeout]

You can change how long it will take to turn the backlight off. Set 0 if you don't want to turn it off.

WhenStandby= when nothing's happening
WhenPicture= when viewing picture
WhenText= when viewing text
WhenSound= when playing sound

moviecouple

OK. Think I understand. I'll try it later.

Now... how do you change the skins?

GIDZzz

You can download ready skins (there are some on the forums). Then just copy skin files to the "shell" folder. You can also make skin by yourself. If you want, here is a list of files plus short descriptions:

Got it. One last question. Is there any way that I can put all the files into a Moonshell folder. It doesn't seem to run unless the _BOOT_MP_SC.nds is on the root of the Supercard along with the shell folder. I was hoping to put it and all the files in a folder on the supercard.

jas20

I put the moonshell program (the nds) in the shell folder (on the root).

But sometimes you have to be careful with doing this, as my DSorganise seems to disappear when I try this sort of thing with it...

GIDZzz

"shell" folder must be on the root, .nds file can be anywhere you want.
