I've tried to get my DS Lite to shut off with and without the battery charger by shorting SL-1, it wont power off, i dont understand, i havent gotten a superpass yet because they didnt ship untill today :( but i will tell you the results when I do flash it.

If your DSlite doesn't shut off then you have a safe(er) one.  Regardless, the DSlite is easy to recover even if it does get bricked.  You would need access to another DSlite.

trivoldus

hmm, thats wierd, just a thought, but if you only have a chance to correctly short the sl1 then, if you incorrectly short it and it stay at 0% then try turn it off to retry wouldnt that bricking your ds lite?
i do not entire sure because i didn't try and wouldnt try ^^

edit: i just thought of a way to check if your ds would turn off or not by shorting the sl1 while playing a game rather than before flashing it.

If progress hasn't gone above 0%, nothing has been altered.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

trivoldus

Well, that, technically say, is right. But is it proven?
anyhow, i guess there is no reason to mislead anyone on this forum, so I'll just accept that theory till I have a chance to try ;)

Critical_Impact

It seems very random, I cant get mine to shut off by shorting SL1 multiple times

nonameduck

I haven't flashed my DSLite yet since I don't have my Passme2 yet, but I've tested it by repeatedly shorting SL1.  It hasn't turned off at all, so I'm thinking I'm safe.

I don't understand why there's no software that "emulates" the flashing process... I mean, like a "test mode". you should do everything the way you were meant to (short the SL1, wait for the counter go to 100%, etc.), only that it wouldn't replace the firmware. that way people could try flashing before doing the real thing...

I had the same experience as Darkuni. No AC adapter plugged in and lost connection with the SL1 Bridge several times. Still worked with no problems and runs like a charm.

kennyboy

yeah.....flashed 2 lites and did the second one with ac power....

neither had the power shut off on contact.

so on my own small personal experience, its just a urban myth.

Same here, flashed two NDSLs and no shut off.

I thought it was an urban myth too until Daveychan posted results of his methodic testing.  His explanation also answers some NDSL "bricking" mysteries. How widespread is this problem?  Unknown at this time.

darkuni

Just did two more that came from a different store.  Both flashed fine - even purposefully DROPPED connection at about 55% ... Resumed fine.

I really want to run into one of these rogue DS Lites so I can substantiate it.

Me too. However, Daveychan is a distinguished member here who, with Mavis, first posted accurate information about the NDSL release in Japan.  Remember?

DS Lite + FlashMe: hands on!!

I am going to pick up one more NDSL and see what happends. So far, knock on wood, so good.

darkuni

Oh I ain't callin' him a liar! :)

I just want to lay my hands on one to see for myself.  I just find it crazy that there would be any differences between one batch(?) of USA lites and others.

I'm wondering if the ones he's run across are actually DEFECTIVE, and perhaps their fuses are weaker and ANY poking around blasts them ... something ... I just can't come up with a scenario that explains it off.
