Reason For No Rom Links

We are still finding members posting links to roms/isos/warez even though it has been clearly stated we don't allow those kinds of post, and even have a sticky with rules for posting. To keep it clear, this is why we don't allow the posting of roms/isos/warez links.

The reason we don't allow rom links is simple. Will someone get sued for downloading roms? Most likely not. The people who get in trouble are the sites/people who upload/host the illegal files. We don't want any trouble by hosting or linking to illegal software on this site. That is the #1 reason we will not allow hosting/links to roms, iso or warez stuff in general.

We don't think we are better then you or anyone else, it's not a soapbox moment for us, it's purely from a legal standpoint. I personally will admit I use this stuff all the time (music,movies, games, software) ect, it's just I keep it off this site and talk about it at sites I know im allowed to.

So in ending, if you post a rom/iso/warez link your post will get edited and a nice little note left in it from me. This does not mean I hate you,lol, or that your not a respected trusted member of this site, it's simply what has to be done in order to keep this site running for a long time to come. You will not be banned for accidentally posting a link, but if you continuously post links you will be banned (but not without warning). Please understand it is nothing personal, just business.

Yep. I've seen many sites disappear when they don't host any warez but link to them. It's not worth taking the risk of getting this place shut down when we can all Google for the stuff anyway.

So can we PM sites becasue someone yesterday PM'd me where to get Roms and I PM'd him back wiht the sites, Is that ok??

I don't want to sound like a smart ass, but can the PM system be used for such talk? I'm new to this rom stuff and i know i can't post on the forums about it...but if i could ask people who know what they are doing via PM's...

I just don't want someone soliciting someone through pm for a rom link. If I find someone randomly pm'ing people harasing them by asking for roms they will get the boot. We don't want to see post in the forums asking for links or pm's with links. It gets old to see a post that says new game "x" works and then have 20 replies saying "pm me the link to the rom". I mean were not going to be Nazi's about it, but it must be kept under control. If you have a friend here you know and speak with, then what you 2 discuss in pm's is between the 2 of you. We don't monitor pm's of course so if someone is getting harassed by pm please let us know.

Oh yeah. Sorry about the other day.

But could they really do anything to you if it's not hosted on your server? I'm not trying to argue or anything, but there's lots of sites that give themselves the title of being "legal" because the ROMs are not hosted on their site.

They probably wouldnt be able to sue anybody but they could shut the site down. I have been coming here a long time for information and I feel that it would be a tragic loss if this site gets shut down.

I agree. This site really cleared my doubts the first time I got my Supercard. It even gave me alot of helpful info. I recommend this site to all my friends who are first timers, because I am more than certain that this site will help them as much as it helped me.

Even more so, how can the person who hosts this site get blamed for what OTHER people post on forms on their website. Isn't this how Youtube keeps from getting shut down with all of the illigal videos on it?

Um... illegal videos? How are videos illegal? Here's my problem:

It's illegal to download ROM files, but not to share information... so how is sharing information on where to download illegal files illegal? It's the fault of the downloader.

And the person who hosts the files has patents to deal with... but if you're not hosting it it shouldn't be a problem. And by the way, word on the street it that the patents for the NES and SNES have expired, so those ROMs are legal now, right?

not to be rude but, newsflash...

videos are copyrighted just like video games.

People upload copyrighted videos onto youtube all the time.

against the law? Yes, but the owner of youtube doesn't get blamed. The person who gets into trouble is the guy who uploaded the illigal video to youtube.

So, if I post something illigal on a form, wouldn't I be the one to get in trouble rather then whoever hosts this site?

Lets just not even go through this discussion of illegal and legal. If you like this site and what it stands for, please respect the wishes of the moderators and the community. We would like to keep this place warez free for the sake of being safe. There are many other sites that do however discuss that which you seek. As always, you are more than welcome to read the forums and gain knowledge of the ever so awesome supercard!
