flashcart magazine - would you read one

now the other day i was looking for some reading material and as i thinking of getting a new slot 1 flash cart i wanted something to do with that.

i thought the r4 review from gbatemp.net would be great but at 17 pages id go with out and just read it later. so heres my question...

would you.... download / print / buy a flash cart magazine if it had reviews, compatibility charts for recent releases, guides, features etc...

now for this too happen i would need some people to help out with some of the articles (e.g. writing reviews, giving info, helping with links, allowing use of their guides for print etc...)

now this would look good as a finished product as i am a graphic designer and can make good looking layouts with photo shop and quark, so this isn't like a ms publisher sort of thing.  :D

i still need to work out the details but the magazine would be bi-weekly or monthly and be cover 12 - 24 A4 pages.

now by 'buy' i would mean just to cover the costs of paper, ink and postage, roughly £1.50 (uk) or $6.00 (us) this is as im based in uk and airmail is more expensive   .

I'm not expecting to make a profit from this as the final publications would be free for download online.

any help would be great, im just trying to give something back in the only way that would be half decent ¬¬ . if you did write articles or help out, i would credit you (obviously) and you could have an advert in the mag.

Thanks for reading my overly big post

Absolutely definatly YES. This would be fantastic!
If you need web hosting, don't hesitate to contact me!
I would buy it for up to £2.50 a magazine.

Useless since,

1) Firmware Upgrade can change the whole compatibility and options.

2) All the informations can be written in 1 page for each flash card.

3) A free website with only the informations about flash card and without Console Import / Modchip Sponsor will be perfect for that. I don't think there is any need for a printed magasine or something you have to pay.

...

Devil_Spawn

depends on the quality of the magazine (as in content)

if u haven't checked out the podcast i suggest you do so.  the episodes were informative and funney however some of the host bailed to start the psp podcast so im not sure the current state of the nds podcast.

Yeh i suppose that it would have to be the most recent info, but it could have all the info in one place.

Quote2) All the informations can be written in 1 page for each flash card.

i think you could go a lot more indepth with the info, but it would be in one easy reference page.

well i did say that you only have to pay if you want it in print, if this goes a head and i get some people to help out with the idea i will host the magazines online to print for free. the paying option is only for people who want it in print.

I think it is an interesting idea. Would be more of a "newsletter" then a magazine. Would be even cooler if there was a homebrew app that would connect to the web and download the latest "issue"  straight to the DS each week or 2. You would might to expand it to cover hombrew news and releases too to give it more appeal to people who already own mod carts.

FYI, they are looking for more hosts.

yeh it would be more of a newsletter i suppose, and i was going to get some reviewers in for homebrew and include info on upcoming release dates and recent releases.

my only thing is that i will need other people to help out with the articles

PharaohsVizier

I wouldn't mind helping out.  PM me if you are interested.

DeVS

I wouldn't mind helping either but would like to hear more solid plans for a format/site/distribution,ect.

I will host it if you like, I will also allow my reviews to be published if you want them if you're actually gonna put reviews in.

I'd be interested, I'll contribute if I can but only have SC CF and Flashed DS Phat!

The key thing will be updating all the reviews as the firmware changes, which I think makes it REALLY USEFUL as we all know an update can change everything, hey when I got my SC it was a GBA cart only !!

Well I don't think the magazine would be updated with a new review, but the magazine's website could, and on the news page of the magazine there could be a little box with 'Updated Reviews' telling you to check out the website
Also, to organize it, Drupal has a great module (plug in type thingy) that lets a group of people work on a book. We could use that to keep organized.
