If your banks website keeps crashing then try a different web browser or scan for virii or trojans failing that maby ring your bank or call in to your nearest one :)

Hi

I think the reason the website keeps crashing is because of the fact that Chase bought Bank of America. (And I use Chase/Bank of America - one of them, keeping some personal information)

Hi

Okay (when did I start looking for a new HD? Wow...) back again. It took so long because first, I needed to get the problems with my bank AND paypal worked out and then... well I saw some stuff in the market place I really wanted.

I'm back again. So...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822173025

This is what looks like the best to me, fairly cheap, I'll still have lots of $$ left over if I get it, supports USB, only has one review but the revew says it's good...

If I buy this can I just plug it in, and everything will work like it's supposed to? I want to just GET A DRIVE that works, and this looks good.

yeah should just work PLUG and GO in XP  :)

but 20gb is tiny compared to todays standards  :(

shop around for a similar item similar price but with a much bigger hd :)

in the uk for £70 i can get 400-500gb external drives  :)

for your price you should be able to get a 160 gb - 200 gb drive  :)

eg for about $70 you can get 160gb  here >  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822101007

a 200gb one for about same price $70 here > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822101013

for $80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136077

gets you a 250gb one :)

I would advise get as big of a drive you can afford to stretch your budget to as more storage is always useful :)

considering 1 dvd = 4.7gb so 20gb = about 4 dvds worth of storage  :(

not a lot doh!

Hi

My current HD, that came with my computer, is only 40gb and it took me 4 years before I started having problems, granted I only started downloading tons of video files only recently.

I'm going to order it. Thank you everyone. It's thanks to all of you I'm actually able to get myself an HD that works. I'd otherwise probably end up buying something else that doesn't work. I appriciate all your help a lot, and am very happy that you continued to answer my repitive questions through a 4-page thread. You've all been a big help to me, and I appriciate it a lot.

no problem but still would try get something a little bigger if you can any of the above recommened are external drives that have a hard drive in a caddy or case with a power supply with them they are all the things you need to get started with it  :)

pseudolobster

you're definitely going to want something bigger... price per gigabyte, you're getting ripped off buying a 20gb drive for $50... when you can buy the equivalent of 10 of those (at double the speed) for an extra $16 here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822101013

You're never going to want less space, and buying a bigger drive now means you won't have to buy another one in a few months/years.

...and think about it, you're going to want to back up your whole 40gb, and still have room to download more.. so 20gb is really nowhere near enough space.

There's a few cheaper ones that will still give you some breathing room, such as here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822101007 (8x the space for an extra $13) or on ebay, etc.

the other option people have been suggesting, which may or may not be cheaper, would be to get an internal harddrive and an adapter cable, or an enclosure... something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144309  (250gb internal for $61) and then search ebay for "usb ide"... you can get a cable for $10 (which again, means you must not spill liquids on, bump, or let metal things touch it)

edit: I just realized the links I posted were duplicates of above... and Hi sounds like he's already ordered it... oops!

THAT I wish I'd known about. It's true I'm never going to want less space, but I had though more space would be atleast an extra $20 for the equivilent of 2 of what I ordered, not $16 for the equivilent of 10!

Well, the 20gb drive that I DID order came in the mail and works. That's good enouph for me. It's working, and now my computer isn't choked with movie files.

Sorry... Look, you did help me kkan. Please believe me on that.

the problem is that $70 sounds like more than $15 more than $55, even though it's not. (sigh) I do have a new HD now though, a HD that works and is plenty big enouph even if not huge. My movie files are pretty small, I won't need a new HD for about another 2 years, and by then the price will have gone down so much it will hardly matter.
