Hi

Well, I've got hours of movies stored on my hard drive, a will to not reduce the movie quality, a dvd reader but no dvd burner-just a cd burner, and a hard drive that has no more space on it because all the space is being used by a bunch of avi files!

Any suggestions???

Well, if you can afford about 25 dollars you could buy a dvd burner and then spend about 15-25 for a 50 pack of tdk-r's, you can but them as data dvd's. Or you could burn the avi's to cdr's. Or spend about 65 bucks on a new hard drive from tigerdirect.com

Hi

I don't have the time to install and dvd burner or a new hardrive. Cdr's are an Idea, but I'd need like 100 of them. Any idea where I can get them cheeply?

Hi

You mean that exists  I'll defenately consider it.

you know the cheaper route if you don't want to install a dvd burner or external dvd burner would be to purchase an external HD. It plugs in USB and runs about 70 at tigerdirect for a 250 gig-ish size.

Please do not take offense to the next statement, but you say you don't have the time to install a dvd burner, but it will take hours to burn a 100 data cd's. Installing a internal dvd burner is alot quicker and a dvd holds 6 times as much data, not to mention at tigerdirect you can get a lite-on brand dvd burner for 25 bucks. I think you need to look at the big picture on what you are trying to accomplish (as well as storage space). Please take no offense, only trying to give you a bigger picture.

You are joking here, right?

Hi

Good point onekelly.

No, I'm not joking. I haven't exactly been looking at diffren't dvd burners lately...

Hi

Okay well, here's an update since my last post.

1. I found some cds in the closet
2. I started burning movies to them
3. After burning the 7th cd, I stopped for fear of dying of bordem
4. I got desperate and began to use my Ipod as a hard drive
5. I found out my Ipod doesn't have a enouph space (Like DUH Hi. I mean, It's an IPOD. You really WERE tired.)
6. I looked at some external hard drives on the internet.

And that's where I have to ask people. I'm quite short on spending money, (which is why I can't buy a dvd burner) and want a hard drive.

Well, I'm quite illiterate when it comes to hardware so...

Is this a good deal? http://www.computergiants.com/items/one_item.asp?part=61033&aff=14 Will it work?

Does anyone know of a better or different deal? I have $40 to spend, but would like to save some of it. I need an 18-20 GB hard drive for my movies.

By the way, I've been using 7z commpression, which helps a bit.

Well personally I'd go for a new iPod.  I have one of those 80GB video ones and I can put all my videos there, not to mention watching them.  But if you want cheap hard drives, go for eBay.  They may not be very fast, but they get the job done, and fairly cheap too.

This is a good deal:

Hi

Well, I did something really stupid. I bought something with no real Idea of what I was getting. I thought I could just buy it and hook it up to the computer with no problems but...

Any way, this is what a bought https://www.compuvest.com/Description.jsp?iid=383360

It comes in the mail, and I'm in trouble. First, one side of it is exposed. in other words, one could touch the electronical workings of it. Is it bad to leave it lying around exposed to dust? What should I do?

There is also no way that I see to connect it to the computer. It has a place that one would think a wire plugs into, but I don't have a wire. The hard drive didn't come with one.

Please help me. I'm litterally scared right now. my heart is pounding fast. I spent $20 on this and now it seems like this is a falure. I'm worried I'm going to break it. HELP!

Hi

This is WAY to complicated for me to do.

I thought I bought an external hard drive!

I know this is a bit of a dumb question but, is there an easer way? And if not, what do you suggest I do now with this hunk of metal I can't use?

Should I buy another hard drive? And how will I know I won't end up with the same problem?

edit: wait, maybe this won't be as hard as I thought. So, I just plug one end into the hard drive and the other end into the scsi port?

you can make it external with this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822999161

now all you have to do is plug all that to your hardrive and then to a usb port, no opening pc up.

Hi

Again, I realise this also is a stupid question. Is there a cheaper solution? (that doesn't require opening up the pc?) I will probably have the $$ for it when my birthday comes around (In two months) but that's a lot of waiting.

Also, it costs as much as I payed for the hard drive. It just seems a bit silly.
