Hey guys!!

Well, I did finally get the SC card to work in DS mode, and now I'm getting ready to dump the firmware (at least, I'm going to try AGAIN) ... After that I'llbe flashing to v6, I've had confirmation from a very trustworthy source that I won't brick my Lite by doing so (I'll just lose the new backlight adjustment, probably) ...

I'll post in a bit once I get it sorted out. And btw, I'm glad you liked my moblog pics - thanks for the comments!! :D

OK guys, I'm having a problem, hopefully someone here can help me ...

I'm dying to flash my Lite, but before I do, I want to dump the firmware. I know there are utilities to write the firmware to the SC SRAM in chunks or whatever, but I can't seem to get it to work. There are also utilities that can dump to CF, but my SuperCard is SD. I tried the one that dumps to the NDS cart, but it doesn't actually DO anything - it just runs and runs (I left that utility running for about 45 minutes) but it never gives me a 'complete' message.

How the hell can I dump my firmware? :(

Thanks for any help you can offer ...

Post more details about the problem with the GBA SRAM "chunks" dumper? I've used it without problem.... I'm wondering though, how exactly are you going to do SL1? is it a case of taking the DS to bits to do the flashing?

Cheers

No, the SL1 is totally accessible, not even a sticker covering it ... But first things first, exactly what do I do to use that dumper? Can you help me ... ?

Ah cool, I assumed it was hidden away under the case somewhere..  although I've not really been following it... I'm gonna use my lite to play original games :)

Basically create 4 sav files eg 1.sav 2.sav 3.sav 4.sav, run the dumper in DS mode, it will dump the first part, reboot into GBA mode, saver menu, dump GBA SRAM to 1.sav repeat until you have all 4 parts then combine using copy /b 1.sav + 2.sav etc firmware.dump

Thanks mate!

I follwed your instructions to the letter, but Natrium's dumper isn't doing ANYTHING on the Lite - it works on the old DS but on the Lite, pressing A B X or Y does absolutely nothing. I also tried the NDS cart BIOS dumper with no success - so I wonder - did Nintendo make some changes to the firmware/hardware to prevent people from dumping it? hmm ...

I'm ready to flash my Lite, but I want to dump the firmware first - it doesn't look like that's going to be possible ...

try patching the dumper with ndsloader.bin - http://l33t.spod.org/ratx/DS/dslazy will do that easily if you have no idea how...

Thanks, but it didn't help - the dumper is a ds.gba file, so re-patching it just causes a white-screen ...

I really wish this firmware was dumpable ... any other ideas? Thanks again, I really appreciate it ... !

Ah right... nope no other ideas for a lowly SD user ( like myself ) ;) I'm sure there are lots of other people who can dump it though, wouldn't be suprised if the flashme folks don't already have a copy....

That's the thing - they don't have it yet - I asked ...

I'm thinking Nintendo may have made some changes to prevent people from dumping the Lite's firmware - although I'm willing to test out flashme on my new toy, I want to know that a dump exists before I do ... :(

How depressing. SuperPass2 every day ... What a pain in the neck ...

Received - give me a day or two to write something worthwhile (well, hopefully worthwhile) back to you - I'm a bit backed up on my PM ... ;)

Anyway, good news guys: I dumped my Lite's firmware! Loopy was kind enough to help me out with it, so I was finally able to get it done!! That means I will be flashme'ing the Lite today/tonight!! :D

Stay tuned ... hehe

No problem, take your time, I just wanted to make sure you got it. Great work on the firmware, hopefuly by the time the DS Lite hits the states there will be a flashme waiting for it,lol! By the way anyone heard of a states release date for the DS Lite yet?

Yeah, I have no doubt a FlashmeLite will be available before the US launch, which btw I've heard will be in May. Of course, with Nintendo's production woes and supply problems (91,000 units for a launch in Japan? What kind of pathetic joke is that?!) who knows if they'll actually be able to launch in May - it'll probably end up being delayed ...

Well even if it's going to be delayed we will have something to play with here in the States.....Actually I am not even in the rush, because I got my DS just 2 months ago and it's pratically still new!!!
It would be sad to put it away so soon, expecially since I like the color(blue) so much!!
But yes, I am looking for the Lite because of the better display.
By the way how is the new screen?
Is it just brighter or does it actually  look more colorfull, less reflective and with a better definition ?

I would appreciate any info on the subject.

By the way , I am wondering, where are you from ?
Because everybody knows that you live in Tokyo, but from what you write you don't sound Japanese!
I am just curious that's all :)
