Quote from: "totaltoanage"great stuff mavis. i ordered my lite and it comes with a free hori screen protector soo i dont have to worry about scratches on the screen. :)

Those screen protectors are GREAT, except that I'm a perfectionist and end up going through three or four packs just to get one on perfectly ...

That said, I've tried three brands for the Lite, and I think the Hori is best. It leaves a cloudy residue when you remove it, which takes a fair bit or work to finally get off - but the application is much simpler, partly because the plastic is thicker - it doesn't just flop down on the screen, you can kind of gradually lay it down, working from the corner. And despite the thickness the touch screen is still sensitive, so all in all I'd have to say that one is the best. Anyway, congrats and enjoy! :D

BTW, I suppose it would be easier for me to put together some sort of review if you guys would tell me what it is you want to know ... does anyone have any specific questions about the Lite that either daveychan or I could answer?

I don't know . . . I might have to buy a DS lite just to swap out the screens with my silver DS.  What do you think . . . am I crazy?

If it works it would be awesome but still, if you have a ds lite just use it like that :P
still, would be fun to do but I think you'll run into incompatibilities.
The screens are different types to I think the utilise different voltages and signal carriers etc.

Greetz,

Just wanted to add my opinions in here for the NDSL comfort discussion.  I play mostly button type games... Metroid Pinball, etc etc...  and I'm sorry to say that after about 15 minutes or so my fingers cramp up, mostly my thumbs.  However, it's a pretty good bet that it might just be me getting used to the new way of holding the thing.  It's also possible I've gotten used to my PSP too much! If it ever gets made, I will definitely pay for one of the add-on hand grips that were made for the advanced gameboy and psps.  Bulky, but the difference in comfort is amazing.

Mavis is spot on about the new round edges and using the stylus.  I found it much much more comfortable than the NDS1.  Although my thumbs do cramp up, i don't get painful red lines on my hands after gripping the thing for an hour!

Oh! I, too, use the Hori protectors and am very happy with their application and the way they last.

A tad off topic, but important when talking about aesthetics and storage, is  the amount that the Supercard (SD) sticks out.  It really is starting to bug me a little bit. I mean, two supercards next to each other are actually wider that a folded NDSL!  I'm always a bit paranoid about pulling that thing in and out of my NDSL all the time, one wrong jam in the moment of excitement to play a new game, and i fear i'll strip a contact point or break some vital piece of plastic somewhere.  (I'm one of the idiots who broke the DS cartridge slot spring the very first time I used my superpass2 with my NDSL1.  Fairly easy to fix, but it made me feel like an oaf nonetheless.)  I'm using a 1 gig SD card full of games, so I pretty much keep my SC plugged in all the time, but i can't help but think how nice it would be not to have that extra piece sticking out when i put it in my little protector case and when i'm playing.... i guess i'm trying to say is that i do hope eventually a new version of a supercard comes out that is the size of the AGB cartridges.

Okay, I hope this information is useful for someone.  Be sure to give me a hollar if you want to know anything else!

cheerz!

I agree wholeheartedly with this!!! The Supercard not only looks huge in the Lite, it also feels less secure, because less of it is inside the Lite when fully inserted. The few minutes I've spent playing with it, I've been worried the whole time that I would accidentally jiggle it loose or knock it partially out, etc ... To be honest, I'd be willing to pay double what I paid for the Supercard if I could have an SD or miniSD adapter the size of an original GBA cart, or smaller ...

That's part of the reason I'm anxious to check out the new miniSD M3, despite the fact that I now have three Supercards and two high speed 1GB SD cards - the cost of miniSDs might be high, and that new adapter might be expensive as well, but it'll be less obtrusive, feel more secure, and look better too - IMO, it would be worth the expense!

ps. thanks for chipping in, Daveychan! I'm sure everyone here would like to hear more from you and the other Lite owners, rather than just me blabbing on all the time ... ;)

I'm just curious, did anyone do the picochat color test on the DS lite before upgrading the firmware?  Also, any chance one of you would be willing to disassemble your DS lite and take some pictures? (I understand if you don't want to)

sneef

there are already many detailed photo sets floating around the net.  they show the pcb of the ds lite from every angle..

I'm like a kid who takes apart his toys (it's a sickness). I've only seen pictures of a non-working PCB prototype.  Do you have any other links?  Thanks.

Daveychan

Hiya... i think i'll pass on taking my NDSL apart seeing as there are several pictures already out there.  I WILL however be more than happy to take apart the GBA cover bit to check out the leads.  (Sorry, its been a busy week at work, so i'll try and get to it on the weekend.)

In case you missed it, my flashing experience for the Lite is detailed at the post:

I'll post pix as soon as i can!

NEW EDIT:  The pictures are now posted at this thread:

Just to further what people were saying about wifime not working wth the DS Lite...

Whenever I try to send stuff (wifime, multiboot demos, etc) via wifi (wmb.exe) to my DS Lite, the DS Lite shows the program/icon etc, but as soon as you click "Yes" to download it, the wifi signal strength indicator drops from 3 bars to 0 bars, and it says communication error. Is this the the rest of you are getting, or are you able to run anything via wifi on the DS Lite?

Sorry, I've got the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB dongle, so I can't use wifime or whatever ... I'll give MKDS a try tonight to see if it works, I think I tried ACWW last week but i can't remember  ...

Thanks mavis - but I'm not in any doubt that normal games will work using the normal wifi method. Nintendo wouldn't make that kind of error! I'm just interested to see if using the hacked drivers for RT2500/2560  wifi cards, anyone is able to successfully send anything at all to the DS Lite. Surely I'm not the only one out there trying it?

Hey mavis,

I would just like to know if the Nintendo DS Lite comes with a thumb stylus, the plastic nub at the end of the wrist strap? I think that it would be a great help in playing Metroid Prime: Hunters if the DS Lite has a thumb stylus.

Also can you still play Mario Kart over the Nintendo WiFi Connection even though you installed Flashme v6 on your Nintendo DS Lite?

Thanx

Nope, no thumb stylus ... :(

That is what I want to test ... IIRC, AC:WW worked just fine - but I can't remember for sure. I'll test both MKDS and AC:WW in about eight hours - so I'll post again then!
